About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced and driven 1st Team Strength & Conditioning Coach to support the delivery of elite physical performance services within a first team environment.
This role is being recruited in partnership with 292 Performance on behalf of Salford City. The successful candidate will be employed and managed directly by Salford, while working collaboratively with 292 Performance and the wider interdisciplinary team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing athletes for the physical demands of elite competition through the delivery of high-quality gym and field-based performance programmes. The role requires an individual capable of balancing performance enhancement, player availability, and long-term physical development within the realities of a high-performance team sport environment.
Key Responsibilities
Physical Performance Delivery
- Design and deliver individual and group-based strength and conditioning programmes for first team players.
- Deliver high-quality gym, pitch, speed, power, and conditioning sessions aligned to the team’s performance objectives.
- Prepare players for the physical demands of training and competition.
- Support warm-ups, recovery sessions, activation strategies, and physical preparation routines.
Training Load & Athlete Monitoring
- Collaborate with performance science staff to monitor player load, readiness, and recovery.
- Use objective and subjective data to inform planning and athlete management decisions.
- Assist with physical testing, profiling, and monitoring processes.
- Support daily decision-making around player readiness and training modifications.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with coaches, physiotherapists, sports scientists, medical staff and rehabilitation staff
- Contribute actively to daily performance and medical meetings.
- Communicate clearly regarding player status, physical performance priorities, and training recommendations.
Return-to-Performance Support
- Assist with the physical reconditioning of injured players in collaboration with rehabilitation staff.
- Support the progression of players from rehabilitation into full team training.
- Ensure return-to-performance strategies align with team demands and athlete readiness.
Planning & Operational Support
- Contribute to weekly and long-term physical planning processes.
- Support the implementation of performance department systems, standards, and SOPs.
- Maintain accurate athlete records and session documentation.
Culture & Environment
- Help foster a positive, accountable, and high-performing culture.
- Build strong relationships with players and staff.
- Act as a role model for professionalism, preparation, and continuous improvement.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Degree in Sports Science, Strength & Conditioning, or related field.
- Accredited Strength & Conditioning qualification (UKSCA, NSCA CSCS, or equivalent).
- Experience working within elite or professional sport environments.
- Strong understanding of:
- Elite team sport physical preparation
- Speed and power development
- Training load management

- Return to performance principles
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to operate effectively within fast-paced interdisciplinary environments.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working within elite football.
- Experience using GPS, athlete monitoring systems, and performance technology.
- Experience supporting return-to-play processes.
- Knowledge of periodisation and long-term athlete management within congested fixture schedules.
